Chronology of Yoshitoshi Mori森義利年表

Born on October 31, 1898, at 24 Honfunachō, Nihonbashi Ward, in the house of his grandfather, the fourth-generation Genjirō Mori (四代目森源次郎), as the sixth-generation Genjirō (六代目源次郎).

His ancestors were the family of Nishinomiya Rokuemon (西之宮六右衛門), who moved from Nishinomiya in Settsu Province to Edo. By 1615 (Genna 1), the family was already in business in Honfunachō as wholesalers of fish and shellfish.

1898: Born on October 31 in Honfunachō, Nihonbashi Ward, Tokyo
1915: Became a pupil of Shūhō Yamakawa (山川秀峰) and studied textile patterns and dyeing
1939: Founded the Moegi-kai (萠黄会), a research group for dyeing
1957: Won second place at the 1st Tokyo International Print Biennale (第1回東京国際版画ビエンナーレ展), which led him to begin working independently as a printmaker
1985: To mark 70 years of his artistic career, held the “Kappa-ban Yoshitoshi Mori Exhibition” (「合羽版森義利展」) at Matsuzakaya (松坂屋), Ginza, and published the catalogue Kappa-ban Mori Yoshitoshi (『合羽版森義利』). In the same year, held a solo exhibition at the National Museum of Ethnology, Leiden (ライデン民族学博物館), the Netherlands, which went on to tour Europe
1992: Died on May 29, aged 93
